City transport In case of a ticket control, passengers must be able to show a validated ticket (both on board and at the stop). One-way tickets cost €1,20 and may be purchased at ATAF client points, authorized dealers (newspaper stands, tabacchi, cafés), equipped ticket machines and on board (for € 2).

A contactless payment system is being brought into effect on all buses and trams throughout Florence and Tuscany on March 28, 2024. All travellers, including the millions of tourists who visit the region and are unfamiliar with the local system, will be able to hop on board and pay for passage with a single tap.

You can buy a bus ticket from a "cartoleria," which is a shop where magazines and newspapers are sold. Most train and bus stations in Italy have cartoleria shops. You can also buy bus tickets in some "tabaccheria" shops.

Pisa local bus service The local buses follow the usual Italian city bus model where you buy individual tickets from newsstands or ticket offices. There is a newsstand in the main ticket hall of the railway station that sells bus tickets. Fares are very cheap.
